After nine months of sabbatical / sacred pausing, I'm back sharing again. This return feels vulnerable - I've been in a dark, introspective space, reevaluating everything in my life. These Fireside Chats are my way of reconnecting authentically, sharing the rich inner threads of my journey. I’m really grateful that you’re here, reading, listening and witnessing. Thank you.
A centrepiece of this week’s fireside chat has been the quote, "God will steer the boat, I will have to row it." I’ve spent many years trying desperately to control things way out of my control, I like to micro-manage the details and I’m prone to burning myself out into the ground. I have no doubt many of you relate.
What happens when we truly are able to surrender and trust the unfolding of our lives? It doesn’t mean we are passive. It means we are entering into a divine collaboration, not white knuckling and forcing things to happen on our terms.
I’m a big believer that we need to do our part. We need to row the boat, faith in action, showing up to our lives. But I believe we are not the ones steering our lives, that is not our job. You’ll hear me speak on this in the video.
Work it friends, but trust in the divine guidance over your life.
I also talk about urgency culture and how it’s been fucccccking suffocating me. Our old friend “everything is a problem and needs to happen now”. I swear with intention because this is BS. Bull.Shit. I tell you.
Insecurity drives this constant rush and the need for everything to be happening immediately. I have greatly suffered under this sticky, suffocating culture and I’ve witnessed many of you too. I’m not sure there has ever been a student I’ve worked with who hasn’t felt this pressure. It’s everywhere.
My previous coaching business was a perfect example of this. I built it over seven years, but I was always pushing, always expanding, never truly working within my actual capacity and eventually the foundation felt like sand and it blew away in the wind. This was a truly great lesson.
Painful, messy and I’m still recovering, but does it feel good to look back and know the difference between what is real cultivating and real building and what is rushed, greedy and scarce. There is a real art to authentic business building and I’m really looking forward to applying everything I’ve learned.
So yes, I am making a very slow and intention comeback to work that is driving by cultivating ecosystems of care as the foundation to my life. My life isn't just about work anymore. It's about creating rich, interconnected circles of nourishment - relationships, spiritual connection, family, physical health, creativity, fun. I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket in the same way I was encouraged and influenced to do. It does not work for me.
Instead, I'm building multiple "nests" that feed each other. Raising my standards has been crucial. I'm no longer willing to override myself for the sake of urgency or fitting some external expectation. I'm learning to take my time, to ask more questions, to be discerning about who and what I allow into my life. This is my "living my life" era. Not just an online identity or a work persona, but a full, rich existence where my experiences feed my work, not the other way around.
Life is for living and not for sharing. This is easily lost in the online world.
I've been in the soil with the worms, doing the deep internal work, and now I'm emerging with something genuine to share. This organic desire to “comeback” feels wonderful and born from an authentic place. The more I clean things up from the past, let go and move forward, the more energy I feel to invest and create with in this new season.
I could not recommend more having the courage to put a lot of your life down for a season and see what emerges. It is a huge risk, I do understand that, so you have to find a way to do without harming yourself or others. And I believe this is where true inner wealth is cultivated: when you move in silence.
My coach shared with me recently, “Wealth is everything that you can’t see” which was a quote from the book, The Psychology of Money. That is what matters to me: I feel really clear on that.
What is the wealth that you have in your life that cannot be seen? No doubt it is felt in the way you move and meander through life. In the way you embody your character, values and principles. In your choices and boundaries. In your relationships and the people that will be there on a rainy day when the lights are off. True community and companionship.
